Output Title: UpCreate The Art of Music

Output description: Intellectual Output 6 (IO6) is led by ARGE Gustav Mahler Festival Steinbach (ARGE Festival) and aims to activate young people in local, national and European cultural heritage through the topic of Music and Food It is the goal that IO 6 will strengthen action competencies related to innovation and entrepreneurship among young people in Europe in ways that will inspire creativity and innovative new solutions, the rediscovery of our shared cultural heritage, and the active participation in shaping the future of Europe.

ARGE Festival will develop, design and facilitate the UpCreate Art of Music Competition regarding their main topic The Art of Music in combination with food Gustav Mahler was a great composer and a world lead conductor, who inspired artists and audiences with his appearance and today his music is still in demand In the summer of 1893 Gustav Mahler visited Steinbach am Attersee for the first time, and he found great creativity from the breath taking surroundings which inspired half a dozen songs and most of two enormous symphonies during his stay for four summers To get even closer to the nature surrounding him and to work in peace, a hut was built for him in 1894 The hut was Gustav Mahler’s composing cottage and was built on the shore of the lake ARGE Festival is an organisation, which includes the hut that in 1985 at the initiative of the international Gustav Mahler Society, became a Mahler memorial ARGE Festival will produce a competition brief that will describe a specific topic within the frame of Music and Food ARGE Festival will promote the competition locally and nationally for young people to participate and engage with their own history while answering the brief and thereby developing new and innovative solutions to engage with our shared cultural heritage During the UpCreate Art of Music Competition period, the participants will be provided with specifically tailored Digital Educational Material, which includes the opportunity to participate in online lectures by the project partners ie art historians, architects, artistic  performance groups, chefs etc to secure a broad and interdisciplinary approach This will provide the participants with the opportunity to develop new action competencies as well as experiences, new knowledge and a wide range of digital formal, informal, and non formal learning methods and approaches via various materials It is the ambition that the interdisciplinary learning tools will further inspire the level of creativity and innovative ideas that sparks entrepreneurship among the young participants in their local environment It will furthermore support the recovery resilience of the organisation as they embrace new and innovative practices to present the legacy of Gustav Mahler.

During the competition period, ARGE Festival will continuously engage with the participants by facilitating digital meetings in the plenum and individually, for the participants to be heard and get feedback on their contributions This, to secure an iterative process in regard to the learning outcome, as well as a social interactive possibility and way to communicate ARGE Festival will select a winner of the UpCreate: Art of Music Competition at a local Multiplier Event (E5) which will be live-streamed through the UpCreate website (www.upcreate.eu) The Multiplier Event will be facilitated by ARGE Festival and will present UpCreate and the UpCreate Art of Music Competition, the different solutions and finalise the event by electing a winner to the broader public in the local environment The winner will present their entry or a pilot version of their solution The winner of the UpCreate Art of Music Competition will be given an opportunity to participate in the UpCreate workshop at the International Art Biennale 2022 in Venice and promote their solution in the UpCreate Handbook (IO9) and the UpCreate Booklet (IO7) Importantly, the UpCreate Art of Music Competition will be held at the annual Gustav Mahler Festival Steinbach am Attersee in July 2022 in Austria, a large event with great exposure that will benefit UpCreate This will result in some activities and sessions conducted in parallel and in synergy with this event.

Finally, IO6 will develop manuals for the art of music and the activities developed throughout the IO6 including learning tools and facilitation procedures to the UpCreate Art of Music Competition The manuals will include how to guides for working within the frame of Music and Food, and for implementing in other European museums and recommendations for up or downscaling The manual will be developed in collaboration with IO 9 leader Aalborg University and will provide pedagogical considerations and recommendations securing not only the dissemination and transferability of the IO6 The Art of Music but also the sustainability of UpCreate.
