Output Title: UpCreate The Art of Architecture
Output description: Intellectual Output 5 (IO5) is led by The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana ( and aims to activate young people in local, national and European cultural heritage through the topic of Architecture and Food It is the goal that IO 5 will strengthen action competencies related to innovation and entrepreneurship among young people in Europe in ways that will inspire creativity and innovative new solutions, the rediscovery of our shared cultural heritage, and the active participation in shaping the future of Europe.

MGML  will develop, design and facilitate the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition regarding their main topic The Art of Architecture with food Jože Plečnik, born in 1872 was a Slovenian architect, who practised his works in Vienna, Belgrade, Prague before returning to his native Ljubljana in 1919 Jože Plečnik arranged his own home in the Trnovo in Ljubljana 1923 1925 and lived there until his death in 1957 Living in Ljubljana, he started to get important orders and the city would show: “to be his lifetime environment for his creative works”, which has led to his legacy today The Man who built Ljubljana The house in Trnovo, Plečnik House, now is a museum open to the public, which houses a permanent exhibition of Plečnik’s Ljubljana, temporary exhibitions and the authentic Plečnik’s home, with its original fur nishing and artefacts, as left by the architect Jože Plečnik In UpCreate, MGML will define the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition that takes its point of departure in the Architect Jože Plečnik and his works and combines it with food to understand the architect in a new and innovative way that will spark entrepreneurship among the participants.

MGML will produce a competition brief that will describe a specific topic within the frame of Architecture and Food. MGML will promote the competition locally and nationally for young people to participate and engage with their own history while answering the brief and thereby developing new and innovative solutions to engage with our shared cultural heritage. The participants will, during the UpCreate: Art of  Architecture Competition period, be provided with specifically tailored Digital Educational Material, which includes the opportunity to participate in online lectures by the project partners i.e. art historians,  architects, artistic performance groups, chefs etc. to secure a broad and interdisciplinary approach. This will provide the participants with the opportunity to develop new action competencies as well as experiences, new knowledge and a wide range of digital formal, informal, and non formal learning methods and approaches via various materials. It is the ambition that the interdisciplinary learning tools will further inspire the level of creativity and innovative ideas that sparks entrepreneurship among the young participants in their local environment. It will furthermore support the recovery resilience of the museum as they embrace new and innovative practices to present the legacy of Jože Plečnik.

During the competition period, MGML will continuously engage with the participants by facilitating digital meetings in the plenum and individually, for the participants to be heard and get feedback on their contributions This, to secure an iterative process in regard to the learning outcome, as well as a social interactive possibility and way to communicate.

MGML will select a winner of the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition at a local Multiplier Event (E 4 which will be live-streamed through the UpCreate website (www.upcreate.eu) The Multiplier Event will be facilitated by MGML and will present UpCreate and the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition, the different solutions and finalise the event by electing a winner to the broader public in the local environment The winner will present their entry or a pilot version of their solution The winner of the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition will be given an opportunity to participate in the UpCreate workshop at the International Art Biennale 2022 in Venice (IO8) and promote his/hers/their solution in the final UpCreate Handbook (IO9) and the UpCreate Booklet (IO7).

Finally, IO5 will develop manuals for the UpCreate Handbook (IO9) concerning the Art of Architecture and the activities developed throughout IO5 including learning tools and facilitation procedures to the UpCreate Art of Architecture Competition The manuals will include how-to guides for working within the frame of Architecture and Food, and for implementing in other European museums and recommendations for up or downscaling The manual will be developed by MGML in collaboration with IO9 leader Aalborg University and will provide pedagogical considerations and recommendations securing not only the dissemination and transferability of the IO5 The Art of Architecture but also the sustainability of the UpCreate project.
